Question: Help! I’m not Jewish – How to plan a fun and unique Hanukkah celebration for my fiance?
Its my fiance and my first Hanukkah together and I’m trying to go all out and plan a really fun first night of Hanukkah celebration! I’m not Jewish but am fairly familiar with what is customary and am just looking for some extra help filling in the gaps.
So far I’m planning on…
- Making Latkes (w/sour cream and apple sauce)
- Making Brisket
- Making Jelly Donuts (I’m not sure if this has holiday significance but I remember him saying he always has them)
- I might make Kugel…but then it all seems a little too starchy
- Having wine and grape juice (he doesn’t like wine)
****Is there any food I’m missing?
In terms of “decorating”…
- I have a Menorah
- I’m planning on going a bit over the top with blue and silver balloons and dreidel cutouts, etc. from party city
***Should I do anything else?
And of course, just for nostalgia, I have gelt and we’ll be playing dreidel.
Is there anything else that you all can think of that I’m missing?
I’m aware its a bit over the top just for the two of us, but he’s always saying how he wished Hanukkah had been more festive in his home growing up and how he was jealous of people who had Christmas decorations because he wanted Hanukkah decorations.

Question: This is continued to the Baby in the Closet…?
Okay these people that are putting thier baby in the closet are people that I lived with for 2 weeks and it didnt work out because I couldnt sit back and watch what they do to thier kids. I said something to them about Neglecting thier disabled child and favoring the lder one… and everything went down hill from there.. I have seen First Hand. The baby been put in the closet for hours.Yesterday both paretns and the 3 yr old daughter went next door for abut 2 hours while leaving thier 19 m old disabled daughter in thier closet with the door shut and the light off…. as she screamed.. There are curtains in the closet behind the door as if its “decorated” These people are Stupid! They never dress thier kids and they have a 3 year old who cant even talk or communicate with you because all day long she is locked in her room with a movie on.. and may I remind you the room, the sheets the EVERYTHING reaks of Pee and just Straight up Dirty-Ness!! Its Horrible! You can tell that the baby has been in the Pack and Play in the Closet. See,,, I am not yet done getting everything out of my room from in the house, but im scarred if I get it out soon then they can put the pack and play back in the room im moving out of and just lock her in the room which is not as bad as the closet.. but I just dont know if there will be enough proof and I dont wanna start No Drama, if the cops or CPS doesnt take this seriously… I Guess when Im over there tomorrow morning if the baby is in Closet I can call the cops… ?

Question: Which style of furniture do you prefer?
I am just curious to know what the population is choosing for styles today. If you would like to state your age, state, or country, I would appreciate it. This may belong in the “Polls” category, but I thought that I would get more feedback in “Decorating”. So, do you follow the trends? Do you have a specific style? Do you know your style? How did you determine your style? Is it Modern, Traditional, Eclectic, Country, French Provincial, etc.? Any contribution that you make will be helpful.

Question: Model railroading (terrain models): what to use as the base / floor?
Looking into building a “Terrain Model” just like the ones used for Model Railroading (except I will be using it for Toy Soldier collection). I can pretty much figure out how to make a frame, also “decorating” or coloring etc… what I’m looking to know is what to use for the exterior base of mountains etc…
Do you use Styrophom and carve it out? Plaster and shape it? Paper machett formed around frame? or something else?
I want something inexpensive I can use a lot of.

I’ve used Styrofoam for many years. It’s easy to work with and shape. I use a serrated knife and a hot wire cutter. I also use a thin coat of plaster to give it a bit of rigidity. You can get a large broken piece of foam at any insulation shop or check a house site for scraps. Usually you can get them for free.

Question: My friend cut’s his wrists.?
My best guy friend cuts his wrists. He recently showed me and another friend of mine how he “decorated” his arms. There are cuts all over both of his arms. I’ve tried asking him what was wrong and why he did that but all he says back is “Why the heck do you want to know it’s my problems can’t people just leave me alone?” He says no one cares and when I said friends care so I care about you he said prove it than left. Plus another friend of his is making him give his knife to him. But he told me (person who cuts) who says I don’t have more knifes, and who knows what could happen next.
I’m just afraid that he’ll end up killing him self (suicide) and if he does than my life would be ruined because i’ve known him for 8 years. Plus i’ll start to think it’s all my fault he killed himself because I couldn’t help…And than i’ll think it’s my fault he’s dead.
But I am going to the counselor and telling her about all of this, but he already been to her plenty of times and it never worked.
What on earth do I do here? He doesn’t want my help. And I don’t want him dead. I told him that cutting is no way to solve problems at all it only makes things worse because one time you go to cut and you end up killing yourself because you cut too deep.
I”ve cried just thinking about this and it’s causing me so much stress…A little help would be greatly appreciated.
I meant to say he does OWN more than one knife.

just tell him that you care about him and that he should tell you how he feels coz it helps to tell someone how you’re really feeling and that you will miss him if he ends up killing himself. just let him know he’s not alone.

Question: Can you help with this elementary school project?
My 2nd grader brought home a note today that explained the class will be making (decorating) “cups”. I’m guessing they are like solid white coffee cups. “I”, she says, will be paying for the cups and supplies. I hate when teachers say how they are paying for the stuff, but that’s another story. She will then have these cups sent off to be made into a dishwasher safe cup that will last .. well, a long time. Any guesses at what she is doing to make this dishwasher safe. What I’m wanting to do is save each kid $ 4.00 for the processing fee she mentions. Yeah, I’ll end up asking her the details, but was just curious what you might think. I have a feeling I could do, or find someone in the area that will do this for nothing as a “donation” of sorts to the school. sorry so long

what needs to be done is get the cups laminated.go to your local craft center they can do it for about 10-15 dollars a kid

We chatted over the Internet for a month before we met whereby now it’s been one month of dating. I found him to be very sensual, witty and brilliant online. His kisses are very passionate but he doesn’t touch me intimately unless I push it. He stated to me that once he’s working again, he’ll “ravage” me and “devour” me and I’ll see the man who he really is. He says he feels worthless without work.
Just yesterday In applying for a job and getting the interview; when he thought about working again and having money, he said he got excited and ended up masturbating.

At 49, I would believe him. He’s a grown man & knows his own mind, spirit, & body.
When a man doesn’t feel like a man, it is like feeling emotionally impotent, which can lead to physical impotence as well.
If you really like him, can’t you be patient & supportive? I mean people have been telling you since you were a girl, if he really loves you, he won’t force you to put out when you aren’t ready & he will wait until you are. Kind of a double standard if you won’t wait for him, eh?
