Question: Help! I’m not Jewish – How to plan a fun and unique Hanukkah celebration for my fiance?
Its my fiance and my first Hanukkah together and I’m trying to go all out and plan a really fun first night of Hanukkah celebration! I’m not Jewish but am fairly familiar with what is customary and am just looking for some extra help filling in the gaps.
So far I’m planning on…
- Making Latkes (w/sour cream and apple sauce)
- Making Brisket
- Making Jelly Donuts (I’m not sure if this has holiday significance but I remember him saying he always has them)
- I might make Kugel…but then it all seems a little too starchy
- Having wine and grape juice (he doesn’t like wine)
****Is there any food I’m missing?
In terms of “decorating”…
- I have a Menorah
- I’m planning on going a bit over the top with blue and silver balloons and dreidel cutouts, etc. from party city
***Should I do anything else?
And of course, just for nostalgia, I have gelt and we’ll be playing dreidel.
Is there anything else that you all can think of that I’m missing?
I’m aware its a bit over the top just for the two of us, but he’s always saying how he wished Hanukkah had been more festive in his home growing up and how he was jealous of people who had Christmas decorations because he wanted Hanukkah decorations.
